During her tour of duty in World War II, Sims regularly visited the Louvre and other great museums in London, and used her free time to study and absorb the paintings and sculptures in their collections. During this time she received an invitation to attend one of Gertrude Stein's famous salons which encouraged in her a growing interest in developing trends in European avant garde thought.
In the 1960s and 70s Sims associated with artists of the New York avant garde. She has produced and staged a number of her own street pieces as well as environmental installations.
